Privacy Policy

    Our approach

    Anna Chakra collects the minimum information needed to provide the service, and we try to describe it plainly. This page tells you what we actually collect, why, who it is shared with, and how to get it removed. If anything here is unclear, please ask us.

    What we collect

    • Account details — your email address and display name, if you create an account.
    • Birth details, if you choose to use the personal panchang or kundali features — your date, exact time and place of birth (including approximate coordinates), and optionally your gotra, ishta devata and kuldevata.
    • Things you submit — contact and nomination form entries, community posts and any images attached to them, business listing details if you list a business, and your email address if you subscribe to the Journal.
    • Technical data — aggregate, non-identifying usage statistics, and your IP address transiently for rate limiting and spam prevention.

    Sensitive information

    Some of what we collect is treated as a special category of personal data under UK and EU data protection law, and as sensitive personal data under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. Specifically, your gotra can indicate lineage or community, and your ishta devata and kuldevata indicate religious belief.

    These fields are always optional. We ask for them only to produce a more accurate personalised panchang, we use them for nothing else, we never use them for advertising or profiling, and we never sell them. You can leave them blank and the rest of the service will work normally.

    Cookies and local storage

    If you sign in, we store a session token in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in. This is necessary for the service to work. We also cache calendar data on your device so the app is usable offline and uses less mobile data.

    For analytics we use Plausible, which is cookieless and does not track you across websites or build a profile of you. We do not run advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

    Who your data is shared with

    We do not sell your personal data. We use the following service providers, and only for the purposes listed:

    • Supabase — database, authentication and file hosting.
    • Cloudflare — website hosting and delivery.
    • Google (Gemini), accessed via the Lovable AI gateway — generating written content and moderating community posts. Text you submit to those features is processed by this provider.
    • Resend — sending transactional and newsletter email.
    • Mapbox — displaying maps.
    • Plausible — privacy-friendly analytics.
    • Google Fonts — serving typefaces, which involves your IP address being seen by Google when a page loads.

    How long we keep it

    We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for. Account and birth-profile data is kept until you ask us to delete it or delete your account. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. We are in the process of publishing specific retention periods for every category of data.

    Children

    Anna Chakra is not intended for children. You must be 18 or over to create an account. If you believe a child has given us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

    Your rights

    You can ask us to:

    • Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
    • Correct anything that is wrong
    • Delete your data and your account
    • Stop using your data for a particular purpose
    • Withdraw consent you previously gave, at any time

    Self-service export and deletion controls are being built into the account dashboard. Until they ship, email us and we will action any of the above manually, at no cost to you.
